Organic Gardening
My wife, Lisa, and I are environmentalists at heart and were brainstorming ways to adjust our lives to be more in line with green values. “We should garden, too,” she said and dammit, she was right. By starting our own organic garden we get:
- Fresh, chemical free vegetables right at our home.
- The joy being out in the Sun tending to our plants.
- To feel good for doing a small part not propagating big-ag and monoculture practices.
2011 was our first year and though out yield wasn't great, we learned a ton and now have systems in place to make the years to come so much better.

The Self-Sufficient Gardener, Jason Akers, was our go to guy for most of our knowledge and questions. His ebook, The Process Oriented Gardener (which is part of the Food Security Knowledge Pack) really provided everything we needed to know but listening to Jason's excellent podcasts not only taught me way more interesting details, it kept me motivated and excited to get my hands dirty. Not only that, but he personally answered every email question I threw at him.
Jason, if you ever read this... THANK YOU!
